The most common reason for tooth extractions is tooth damage due to breakage or decay. If the infection or trauma has destroyed enough tooth structure to prevent restoration, an extraction may be inevitable.
There are also other reasons for tooth extraction: extra teeth (which block other teeth from coming in) severe gum disease, orthodontic treatment and impacted wisdom teeth. See the video below for more information.
